Why Locals Love Shirley Brasserie
Nestled in the iconic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel at 7000 Hollywood Blvd, Shirley Brasserie offers an exquisite culinary journey that effortlessly blends American, French, and eclectic influences into one sophisticated dining experience. This brasserie stands as a vibrant homage to its historic surroundings, inviting guests to savor the magic of Old Hollywood while delighting in a menu that is as diverse as it is refined.
The cuisine at Shirley is a tantalizing mix of classic French brasserie staples and contemporary American flavors, enriched by a focus on fresh, quality seafood and expertly prepared barbecue. Start your meal with an elegant Chicken Liver Mousse Duck Gelée served alongside warm sourdough, or indulge in the chef’s rotating Crudo selection that showcases the freshest catches with artistic flair. For those who prefer communal dining, the Cheese & Charcuterie Board offers a thoughtfully curated mix of cheeses and cold cuts from the bar’s premium selection.
Dive into rich, comforting starters like the Onion Soup featuring a deeply savory beef consommé topped with melted Gruyère cheese and crisp croutons, or the indulgent Tableside Hand-Cut Beef Tartare, a theatrical blend of freshness and texture that is bound to impress. Seafood lovers will be enchanted by the Seafood Platter, a bountiful array of oysters, shrimp, crudos, and Peruvian scallops that sing with oceanic purity.
Complement your entrée with sublime sides such as the velvety Pomme Purée, the creamy yet crisp Macaroni Gratin, perfectly hand-cut fries, or the smoky, rich wood-fired creamy spinach gratin. Each bite is a harmonious balance of textures and flavors, crafted with meticulous attention.
The dining atmosphere is equally captivating. From the moment you step inside Shirley Brasserie, you’re enveloped in an ambiance that channels the glamour of Hollywood’s golden era. As Lorena Comparato eloquently expressed, the setting “feels like stepping straight into Old Hollywood magic,” with every detail from the historic Roosevelt Hotel’s legendary past adding a certain enchanting glow to your experience. The open kitchen, visible cooking stations, and energetic, welcoming staff — notably Anastasia, who guests rave about for her warm hospitality and kitchen tours — create a lively, engaging environment that bridges classic elegance with modern vibrancy.
Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in a weekend brunch, Shirley’s offerings deliver. Danny Min’s heartfelt review captures the essence perfectly: a place where genuine care and culinary excellence seamlessly converge. And brunch aficionados will find a slice of heaven in dishes like the pork belly breakfast, praised for its richness and depth, making it a crowd favorite according to Thomas Strehle.
Shirley Brasserie is more than a meal; it is a full-bodied experience where impeccable flavors meet storied history, fine dining meets approachable warmth, and every visit guarantees a memorable immersion into Hollywood’s culinary spotlight. For anyone seeking an elegant yet inviting taste of French-American cuisine elevated by a historic ambiance, Shirley Brasserie is a must-visit culinary destination in Los Angeles.

Dining at Shirley inside the historic Roosevelt Hotel feels like stepping straight into Old Hollywood magic. The moment you walk in, you’re wrapped in the kind of timeless charm that makes this hotel legendary, after all, Shirley Temple once filmed a movie here and it’s allegedly the site of the very first Academy Awards ceremony. That whisper of history adds a special glow to the whole experience. Shirley itself is elegant without trying too hard - beautiful ambience, warm lighting and a menu that feels both modern and elevated. We had the entree bread, the Bransino, the meat and fries. Every dish is thoughtfully crafted, and the staff is attentive, friendly and clearly proud of the restaurant’s unique setting. And you absolutely can’t miss the hotel pool. It’s stunning, a little slice of vintage Hollywood paradise with a serene vibe and a charming Charlie Chaplin statue keeping watch. It’s the perfect spot to wander after your meal and soak in the history. They say Marilyn Monroe shot her first movie there and actually lived at the hotel! If you’re looking for delicious food wrapped in classic Hollywood nostalgia, Shirley at the Roosevelt is a must-visit.

A phenomenal experience at Shirley Brasserie. We were there celebrating my mother's birthday and could not have been any better. We were greeted by Anastasia with an infectious energy and knew we were celebrating a birthday. She gave us a quick orientation of the restaurant highlighted by their open kitchen (I noticed her doing this with all guests). The cooking stations were impressive and every associate had a smile on their face. Meredith assisted us for our meal and gave us some suggestions including their Sunday supper fried chicken. We took her up on a few times and were not disappointed! The seafood tower was fresh and presentation was exceptional. The steak frite was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the spaghetti was generously portioned with seafood. The octopus was flavorful which is not the easiest to achieve and was cooked perfectly. Firm and not rubbery. The fried chicken was juicy and the accompanying potato salad and slaw was refreshing. Their Beverage director, Joey was there from the beginning touching tables and lending a hand. Lastly, we had the most decadent chocolate cake which satisfied my mom's sweet tooth. If you're visiting Hollywood area, make sure Shirley Brasserie is at the top of your list for a superb dining experience.

Great food in this beautiful restaurant, previously known as Barish. Same okace with classic design and identity kitchen. The steaks were great . The Baggett was warm and crunchy. The risotto was delicious, and the desserts were yummy. Coffee was not the beat. Good service, but can improve a bit. Shows they just started.

We chose this historic place to celebrate our anniversary and Shirley did not disappoint! Anastasia’s energy is everything! She hooked us up beautifully with a tour of the kitchen area and sat us in the best booth she calls ‘The Mogul Table’ We had the best server, Merideth, whose upbeat and genuine energy was fantastic. This was a well paced meal and worth ever penny. The Rioja was one point and the beef tartare who the very knowledgeable Victor delivered with intelligence and love for cuisine. Also, very important to note that this restaurant won an award - one of the top 25 dishes in LA - the one and only Beef bourguignon! This is a must for your evening and well curated Hollywood experience! Thank you for everything Anastasia - you made our anniversary incredible, Merci!

Beautiful hip and modern space at the Hollywood Roosevelt. Sunday brunch was delicious. The breakfast with pork belly was to die for. Our server Meredith is a rockstar!! Highly recommend!

Visited Shirley Brasserie on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles and had a delightful experience. We started with the French baguette and butter which was absolutely excellent, followed by the pâté en croûte with olive that was really good, and the canard confit was impressively good as well. The service truly made our evening perfect, from the warm welcome by the host at the entrance to the attentive service provided by our waiter. Highly recommend for anyone looking for quality French cuisine!

I had Thanksgiving dinner at Shirley Brasserie and it was a wonderful experience. I was flying solo for Thanksgiving as I was visiting from overseas and was able to nab a seat at the bar. The set menu was $95 and there was SO MUCH food. And all of it was good. The bartenders were fun and engaging, the servers were friendly and efficient. It’s a lovely setting and being able to see the open bar and kitchen makes for a very lively environment without being noisy.

Our main purpose we were at the Roosevelt was for the La Cage show. Which was excellent & I highly recommend. The resturant was out of convenience. Nice place! Service was kind of slow due to the fact that there were more runners than servers. The French onion soup was amazing! The Shirley salad i would go back for all the time. The escargot needed help. The pork chop needed flavor. The mojitos should not be considered their specialty.
